Translation into Humanese English

§1: example 1: driving to work

suppose someone says in VE:

I drove to work on Tuesday; but, got stuck in traffic; and I was late for a big meeting. the boss was not pleased.

I2 would take this to mean that 'I, this entire human individual' drove to work on tuesday, got caught in traffic and displeased the boss by arriving late for a meeting. I2 would translate the statement into HE thus:

I0 drove to work on Tuesday; but, got stuck in traffic; and I0 was late for a big meeting. the boss was not pleased.

suppose, instead, that someone says in VE:

I drove to work on Tuesday; but, got stuck in traffic; and, to pass the time while I waited for traffic to clear, I imagined a herd of unicorns grazing in a sunny meadow while discussing the philosophical implications of Illuminatus!.

now, I2 would translate this into HE thus:

I0 drove to work on Tuesday; but, got stuck in traffic; and, to pass the time while I2 waited for traffic to clear, I2 imagined a herd of unicorns grazing in a sunny meadow while discussing the philosophical implications of Illuminatus!.

in this case, while there may be physiological correlates of boredom, the experiencer alone has temporality --- the capacity to experience the passage of time. this I2 chooses to pass the time with a fantasy about unicorns.

now, though, it is easy to imagine that I2 might want to explore a component view of the individual stuck in traffic. what part does the driving? do I2 drive or do I1 do the driving?

I2 might say 'I2 experience driving'; but, in HE, 'I2 experience' is an expression of the middle voice (until proven otherwise). thus, I2 don't know either that I2 do the driving (active voice) or that I2 am driven by some other component (passive voice). similarly, I2 might want to claim that I2 am clearly that which is doing the imagining; but, am I2 sure. some might say that the brain is doing it and that I2 am just experiencing it. in cases where the imagery becomes 'self-directing' --- instances of 'waking dream imagery' or 'active imagination' --- one might want to say that I2 am merely experiencing what I3 am generating.
